Pokemon Whoreizons

 'Til just recently I don't think I'd mentioned Horizons anywhere, simply because the show wasn't doing too much for me. It had its moments, but mostly...I need Team Rocket and loads of other people from throughout Ashime. x'-} That won't change 'til those folks reappear, even if for a single still frame. H'weverrrr. As of ep 136, I have begun to find HZ finally beginning to occupy my mind more. Taking up residence--living there rent-free, if you will. Did not expect that to happen. Must've been the conclusion of the Laquium plot, which I edited a bit about into the July post. Has GoT taught me to hold off at least a bit on getting invested in things? ;p Idk, "Stellar Finale" was not perfect--but, at least HZ probably has a little over a year to go, in which to easily make all as it should be. Which is what's also needed re: Ashime (i.e., the entire show prior to HZ.) It's all so easy. How do things keep ending with this "aw c'mon now, you're so close, we just need THIS--" It's def to keep you hanging on for the inevitable return. ;b So, anyhoo. We don't get "Wonders Ahead" until Pokemon Day? Whaaaa--it was just this year's! Oy.

Well in the meantime I'm doing this apparently. Yeah, that fairly sums up all the significant humans. 
Um. Lessee, shipwise ('cause everything always comes to that, and nothing keeps ya going like 24/7/365 visions of characters doing things you feel little to no urge to do yourself...!)
Noting that personally I only enjoy pairings I can see plausibly being/becoming canon. It's more popular lately for people to do whatever crazy shit they want and canon be damned, but I just can't see a point in that. Not fun for me. ^^ Don't generally love multishipping either (though there are certainly characters without one clear soulmate, and/or whom I would like with multiple partners and can't decide.)
So possibly:
--Roy/Liko. ~ #likoroy | I suppose? Sure why not.
--Friede/Orla. ~ #orlafriede #friedorla | Yeah, I can dig it.
--Wyatt/Perrin ~ #perryatt #wyerrin | Felt that.

And then the best people, the 3 duos! 
It's tempting to ship them, of course. But I'm not sure.
--Sidian/Coral (#coridian) feels the least likely of the 3. Could be cute and possible. They just seem the least shippable, couple-like, or of a "please do not separate" matched set. But I don't reject the idea. They're a fun odd couple at any rate. Coral is like an unhinged, loose cannon, agent-of-chaos Pinkie Pie. And Sid, kinda comes off as being over shit. xD - #obsidiots
--Zirc/Onia (#zirconia! =p) is in the middle. The Amethio-worshiping kawaiiness/cat-video lover and Nidothing/Iono (uggghhh) lover could be that kind of an item. Saw a little comic where they tried to adopt Thio. *tehee* Again though, I wish their names were more, uh, name-like... Zirc I can accept due to Zerk the Pocket-Puppy Dobie at least being a precedent for that odd one. But no matter where you put the C, 'zirconia' just isn't a word that cleverly divides into two names. Butch, Cassidy, Jessie, and James were a ridiculously perfect quartet. "Attila and Hun" was a stretch. So are Annie and Oakley, considering Oakley is infinitely more suitable as their surname, because it IS a surname, but then Annie is...Annie Oakley. xD Hun could be like, short for "Honey," but evidently he wasn't supposed to be a woman even in English and it was a translation error. I figured it would've been an attempt to keep consistent with the other m/f pairs (even though they surely wouldn't all be the same), and because the writers thought his bishonen-ness might read to Anglophones as a girl anyhow. But no, he's just...a dude called Hun. 8-| And I'm, a dudette who's way off-topic now.
--Indi/Rubina (#rubindi or #indybella as I've seen) Oh, those two are for sure. Like if they ain't married yet, they will be soon. The whole color+pokemon-coordination/sharing thing they've got going on is actual almost sickeningly sweet couple behavior. ^p~ Names blend all right too. Headcanoning that Indi is short for Indiana, cuz what else would it be; his parents are big Indiana Jones fans. (Though I wonder about Indy from Bluey. Sounds like a nickname on her too, but for what? India is sometimes used as a human name, but doesn't really seem like an Australian kid's--even one with a hippie mum. Guess anything's possible though.) And then Rubella sounds pretty, but is unfortunately a virus, so kinda glad that was altered slightly (then again, Prunella Deegan's sister is Rubella too. xD)

Coral could be maybe ~18-21-ish, Sid & Ruby & Indi a little bit older, Zirc & Onia maybe 30s. Spinel I guess late 20s.
At the start, what was everybody else? Liko: 10-12 or so? Roy & Dot & the other kids similar, Navie younger. (Can't wait to find out whether that's pronounced Navy or Na'vi...) Figured they'd be around the same as Ash & co. The adult RVTs aside from Ludlow are probably 20s-40s-ish. Amethio's supposed to be a teen, so gotta be 16-19; seemed at least 18.

So yeah, HZ, give us more of these fab folks, YO!
Predictions for how we'll next see the Explorer group:
Well Coral, Sid, Onia, Zirc, and Amethio have already shown up in more or less unsurprising ways. Spinel we really should eventually see working on making amends with Umbreon. Indi & Rubina...could pop up anywhere honestly. It seemed implied that they probably did try to help the defeated Spinel to some extent, but having realized that their faith in him had in fact been misplaced after all, there was only so much they could do and he had to meet his fate. It's still sweet that they didn't just flee and abandon him though. So we oughta see them, like...practicing mega-evolution with their Salamence and her Scolipede or something like that. Pretty open possibilities. 'With You' would be a fitting theme for them. (Also they should kiss. They should all kiss. There should be more kissing in general.) Hamber & Diana should have fun, could likewise be seen again at any point(s.) x-3 Wyatt & Perrin too for that matter. Chalce, well she's back to teaching wherever she lives; might get another glimpse of her.

With the exception of the OG Big 3 (Pokeshipping, Rocketshipping, Neoshipping), I'm not the biggest fan of the "[word(s)]shipping" convention. Majority of those require explanation. Nah, make it as clear as possible which two people it is, and preferably not too much of an awkward mouthful/handful.

Titling game is weaksauce now. "The Catcher in the Sky" is probably the best one so far, and one of the few that even stand out. At least some of the rest do kinda sum up which ep it was, I guess.
Say what you will about 4Kids though--with them gone, the voices and overall dubbing took a nosedive from which they've never recovered.

As to other HZ names...I feel like I wasn't too keen on too many. Spinel sorta feels like his surname, but it's hard to tell. 8/ I refuse not to use a long E in Amethio. Which isn't a bad name either way tbh, but what would you call him for short? Meth? xD Thio? Likely that, yeah. Actually I already did. Gideon is much better than Gibeon, but whatever. Hamber amuses me as he's a hand-haired hamburger man. Chalce I'm gonna assume is her surname. Friede as well. Murdock, Ludlow could go either way. Probably given. Bet Ludlow is at least. Rystal pmo, like what did the C ever do to you? And "Lucca" ticked me all the way off. Should be pronouncing it Lucka, spelt like that. But anyway I only like LUCA for boys, and weirdly this is the second female one in Pkmn. (The Suzanne Vega song was I think written from a young man's pov.) Dot's gotta be short for Dorothy, always is. Sidian sounds okay til you consider that it's just another word with a letter or two shaved off, but at least it shortens to Sid. WAY more characters need to take a page outta Wyatt's book and actually have a goddamn full name. Occasionally it can be tough to even tell whether someone's name would be the first or last. But anyhoo. Now to keep keeping up with the weekly episode summaries on Bulbapedia I reckon...

Ranking is a tad easier when narrowed to one of the bazillion possible subcategories of pokemon...but still outrageously difficult. In '22 I tried to place the stickers in a roughly general favorites-ish order, the main trouble of course being a) you can't move 'em once they're stuck, and b) starting with Zeraora, not all of the most recent mons were included. So I hadda also just list out my top 40-75% of each gen anyway. And then do the third image to account for all the other forms and everything. o_O 

10/2/26: All right, fine, I added a few for the Horizons peeps. Two being practically the same just 'cuz I realized that in the first I'd been slightly inconsistent with the pics used. `-`  `.`  `~`  `^`  Folder's up to 11 now. Only took 136 episodes for me to start feeling a little more attached to HZ. Shocker of shocks, the (ex-)villains are once again my faves. The pairs of them feel like a bone thrown to us Team Rocket lovers. I especially like Indi and Rubina, and they have probably the best designs in the whole thing too. They're like shiny Kabuki+Pharaoh Furfroux gijinkas or personas or something. xD There must be some reason we didn't see them at the end of the finale. Anyway, hope we haven't seen the last of any of the Explorers folks, even though the show's moved on to side-game silliness (might see some Unite holowear at least?), and G10 will probably do something different anime-wise. Spinel's gotta do his time, sure, though it'd be nice to see him making up with Umbreon in the end. Everybody else, c'mon, let them participate in the contests and whatnot! That'd be so much more fun than just the main kids. At this point there's no way we'll see Ashime-exclusive people in the rest of its time, but might as well make the most of what you've got within HZ?

Assuming G10 gets a sticker book including all (and I do mean all) its own pkmn...hopefully it'd also have all forms of everypoke that has multiple, and everybody who's missing from my combo G1-8+G9 books. Alas the "Epic" one was published afterward and has all the missing ones+additional forms, but it's also got no g10 and repeats the majority of g1-9. =p If G10 got a book that again had the entire dex, that could be 1325 (not even counting the forms.)* Epic book appears to do 8 outlines to a page, but of course you'd ignore those and put 'em in your chosen order. BUT it'd still be 166 pages. Would go by region, just having to rank the remaining 25-60% of each one for after the 40-75% done.

Baffling af. So much missing from g8 & 9, and it actually seems to begin with Zeraora. Pokemon, regional forms/evolutions, other forms...fucking garbage.

*Rumors of it having an unprecedented 300 new pkmn, holy shit. That'd be like g1+g5 combined. Exciting yet concerning--especially given all those 'national dex'-type issues they've had lately. Probably the overall trend would continue toward smaller, and also more spaced-out, gens--buuut the 10th one, kinda almost coinciding as closely as they were able to manage with the 30th anniversary...guess that could be a special exception.

Winds & Waves! PKMN DAE!

Firstly, DJ Rotom! He's a stereo and, like Silvally, a CD player! ^u^ 

Secondly: G10 preview. Looks to me, anyhow, like GF saw all the feedback re: graphics and said, "Y'all want good graphics? You got it!" Because that trailer, at least, looked pretty darn pretty. The sea, the lush jungly landscape, the different habitats... The tower wavy-waterfall water-slide building thing, that is suspiciously similar to one from a dream of mine--except mine was gold and looked as if designed by Gaudi. Or Dr. Seuss.

But I swear I've got psychic connections going on, man. In the "Jessie & James vs. Butch & Cassidy" poll on the Poke-TV channel, YouTube deadass submitted a vote for B+C before even giving me a chance. IT KNEW. That okay, this isn't exactly fair, but you're gonna pick them because they're parTICularly your babies, even though no one loves both duos and TR in general more than you. Plus I had mentioned loving them the previous day, so the poll's appearance was either coincidental orrrr... And also in the late 90s/early 2ks I'd been talking on TR fansites and whatnot and writing fanfics in which B&C did in fact quit TR. :3  

ANYWAY. Where was I? Ah yeah, the look of WW. Back in a tropical setting, feels like Alola or the Orange Islands. So many cuties (Sizzlipede and Slugma looked especially so in their usual volcanic area)...the marshlands, the reef...
Reminds me of New Snap and Mario Kart World, like it'll take advantage of the Switch 2's capability.

All right all right, the starters. 
I think...it's a pretty nice trio. The colors work well together and are certainly tropical, summery, fun. 

Pombon: Pomeranian, bonfire, pompom. A small but hardy breed. Okay, guess now I have a trio of favorite first-stage starters who're all Fire-type? A puppy-kitty group. The Pomeranian stands out to me because of Balto's Dixie (omg it was in one of my Quidd shelfies! xD), so I guess I'd name it Dixie. Or Ginger or Cinnamon (ha ha yes, Cinnabon, person who said that) or something. Orangina, Tangerina, Clementine. Valencia, Sunburst, Cleopatra...Ascorbia? Definitely not Kumquat. x3 Or some of the others. Wonder about the evolutions. Could keep it spitzy and go to like a Shibe/Doge and then Akita? I mean there is Okidogi already who's in that area. The 3 German Spitz varieties are small/medium/large. 
Always wonder what breeds/types they might use, and they have been doing some specific-ish doggos. Such as Pem-Corg Yamper. I see Boltund primarily as a tricolor smooth Collie (like the one as whom I played Dog Island.) One UK herding dog evolving from another. It's a doggy-doggo fer sure. I see Bulba comparing it to hounds, specifically English Foxhound and longdog/Grey/sighthound. Lil' bitta all of the above, sure. (Though as a sighthound fanatic first and foremost, I've always gotten those kinda vibes, at least partially or slightly, from lots of my 'pokepooch pack.')
"Guileless and friendly" ...and thus will likely evolve into something guile-full (beguiling?) and unfriendly ;p

Gecqua: Well that's straightforward as well. What I'm seeing here is...the pokemon who looks as if it would evolve into Drizzile and Inteleon! Another water lizard, but this one looks more feminine--whereas Sobble is a little bit of a weird one that seems more boyish, then evolves into two definitely feminine-looking ones. Just like Popplio. And it's got the wide tail that'd turn into the long narrow one. (Although Fred's leopard gecko Leo had the short fat tail that was supposed to but never did that...his shorter-lived girlfriend Cleo's did though. Leo was here for quite some time, too. I was taking care of him while Fred was off in boot camp and all that...) Yeah, anyhoo. Odd. And I know Intellie's like totally a spy/secret agent and everything, but it's not nearly as much of a chameleon as Kecleon.

Browt: Funny name. Funny lil' guy. At first glance kind of just a little yellow bird with leaves on his face, but let's take a look...the bean chick. A sprout, a visual chickpea/peafowl pun. Brow, brute. Yeah, that all makes sense. Sorta resembles my pipe-cleaner Easter chicks and suchlike. Or pompom Oricorio's annoying kid brother. (And yes, he a literal Angy Birb.) Might evolve into something kakapo-like. My first thoughts had been around words like rout, rowdy, owl--but bROWt wasn't quite owlish. However, ROWlet--the other Grass bird starter from a tropical island region with beans!--is. `-` ~_~ Could I be onto something? (Please let there be crossover with Alola! Let Alolan folks show up/get mentioned!)  
Yes, I wish to photosynthesize too. On the daily.
Big fan of lemon-lime and chartreuse is kind of my signature color, so I enjoy the coloring of other grass starters who best fit a citrusy scheme (e.g. Grookey/Thwackey, Bayleef, Turtwig, Treecko/Snivy and fams.)

I SHALL hope that Pombon and Gecqua stay on all fours. It's not the only way for their future stages to have good designs, but it'd probably be nice. Not that I don't rate some of these more "furry"-type starter evolutions highly (i.e., Fennekin's and Sobble's.) Look forward to seeing these guys', and the rest of [insert region's name]'s new pokes.

P.S. I almost didn't wanna hafta say it, but...yeah, Gecqua has LPS energy. Not THE supreme glorious 90s LPS (or its cartoon that I didn't know about/see until years later, for some reason somehow.) The subsequent ones 'bout which I've mixed feelings. It is important one way or another to note that overall, realistic proportions and detail >>>>> the dreadful "big head, big eye, tiny and minimally-detailed body" aesthetic. Nonetheless. I am feeling like this trio would rank fairly highly among the first-stage starters...I know at first glance it kinda looks like 'fakemon,' but from second glance onward, I find myself digging... Especially the three together. Pleasing.

No but seriously, there are so many things where I'm like, "How can you have one single favorite?" As usual it's "Come, peruse my long-ass lists of all of the Best Things in that category...which I've tried to organize or rank if at all possible..."
Fortunately 'pokemon' is both singular and plural.

I keep the document with all the sticker-arrangement lists so I can see how the numbers worked out at the time. 
"At the time" being major keywords, since they're stickers and not Colorforms/decals. ;p Loads of duplicates in the long sticker vids.
Unfortch, G9 had to be done separately, and the book was published before a bunch more of them got added...so looks like no #1009 Walking Wake through #1025 Pecharunt. Or Hisuian forms, for some ungodly reason. (How the evolutions, and all other regional forms, but not those?!) Or Z-A megas, obviously. And it would appear that #891 Kubfu through #905 Enamorus are also missing. FACEPALM. Why wouldn't they have published the books when G8+9 were 100% over with?! Well, anybody else missing, no matter how utterly impossible and inexplicable...is a real shame...OH FFS. OF COURSE THE DAMN STICKERS DON'T INCLUDE ALL THE NON-HISUI REGIONAL FORMS EITHER. NOR ALL GIGANTAMAX. Keep realizing more are missing, so thank Poodness for my lists... 

Like WHYYYYY. Why in fuck would you not wait until every last Pkmn and form had been revealed to print something like this? How da hail ya supposed to get just the ones that're missing? It'd be perfect if the G10 sticker book included only all of those as extras, but you know that won't be the case... I guess you'd have to get each gen's sticker book near its end? 8|

3/7/26: What I’m now finding more helpful than the sticker-slide videos is the combination of the Flickr album pics + THIS. Eeeeeeeeyup.

And, yeah, I suppose the best idea would be to wait 'til near the end of g10 and hope they print a sticker book with every pokemon and form. We have decently good rankings on the MiscellanyInsaney blog of most top favorites by region (really the top 40-75% of each)...could just order the remaining 25-60% of them for g1-9. Probably better than going by letter. Use the book itself, average of 10 to a page, ignoring the outlines and everything wanting you to just stick them down in dex order.
