Oiram Trak

Finally something for here this year! Well, besides comments, naturally. And by November there'll be a whole new set of Pokemon to rank (plus Original Stitch patterns...) As for calendars, no need to essentially repeat the humongous lists from the past few years. Four "calendarmanias" are plenty; from now on let's just jot down the most unique and new ones--the most likely choices and ones that really need to be saved. Anyhoo. Wave 2 of the new MK courses dropped a few days ago, and one in particular made me think I need a spot to add/rank them as they're released. Four more waves, so 32 more tracks, by the end of next year. Waow.

Wave 1:
*Golden Dash Cup [Coconut Mall, Choco Mountain, Paris Promenade, Toad Circuit]
*Lucky Cat Cup [Sky Garden, Shroom Ridge, Tokyo Blur, Ninja Hideaway]

That one was fairly underwhelming. Golden Dash>Lucky Cat. The mountain, mall, and "garden" were the best.

Wave 2:

Turnip Cup~
*Waluigi Pinball (OoOoOoOoOoOohhhhh...)
*Kalimari Desert (haha, the  good ol' train xD)
*New York Minute (Goombas in Central Park! Cool)
*Mario Circuit (classic bright Lego-block course)

Propeller Cup~
*SKY-HIGH SUNDAE (I imploded, too much to say, gotta put it below)
*Snow Land (So basically like Frappe, a longtime fave of mine...with penguies/pingus and gorgeous giant ice crystals and snowmen, yee-haw. Kind of a pretty, blandly named Frappe/Sherbet combo. Still love the 64 versions of both & wish they'd reproduce all of them exactly, just with updated graphics.)
*Mushroom Gorge (ONE OF MY MOST-HOPED-FORS! And magnificent with its own crystals!! "Thank you! You have correctly counted the crystals!")
*Sydney Sprint (Cool)

I'd been hoping for the Turnip Cup next because it has the coolest (well, funniest) name--but it turns out the Propeller Cup is actually the most godlike cup ever. Even more so than the Piston Cup. Swap Waluigi Pinball and Sydney Sprint and it'd be perfect.

But yeah, I wasn't expecting to see a new all-time-favorite course...boy oh boy though, I think that may be Sky-High Sundae. I had to slow a video to 1/4-speed to drink in all the beauty. It has so much detail and creativity. ;3; The ice-cube diner--mimicking the glass block of a classic one--with the jukebox, counter, and booths. The penguies, Yoshis, Toads. The blocks and trays of cubes (I've always had a thing for ice cubes, miss our old plastic trays now that the freezer makes its own. Also the fruit-shaped water-filled plastic reusable ones. And the plastic trays with other mold designs, like the Halloween Jigglers I just used for cherry Pepsicles.) The transparent roads so you can see everything. The excellent-looking giant popsicles and wafers and street of way too many ice cream parlors+trucks in a row. The metal tubs of ice cream (and sherbet/sorbet/gelato/frozen yogurt/whatever)...the flaaaaavorrrrs...lemon-lime, blue raspberry, rainbow swirl, orange, strawberry, chocolate, etc...it was just kinda designed for me. Was in giddy slack-jawed shock the first time watching since I wasn't expecting anywhere near THAT much. "Oh, another Candyland-style thing like Sweet Sweet Canyon and stuff, should be cute. Looks aiight. Probably nothing too special thou--OH MY GOD." Ya had to go THAT hard? Actually my first thought was the Lisa Frank Saturn Sundae, but still anticipated more of a generic ice cream/dessert theme.
I pick favorites by the beauty of the visuals--the ones that make me just want to drive around for leisurely sightseeing instead of racing. The ones I wanna live in.

...Speaking of which. Lettuce hope for some more fabulous additions from the remaining waves--in particular MY PRECIOUS MAPLE TREEWAY. And any number of others from N64, Double Dash, & Wii. Daisy Cruiser!!!! Banshee Boardwalk!!! Peach Gardens!! Dino Dino Jungle (already got jungles but not with dinos?), Mushroom Bridge, etc...whichever ones don't have a near enough equivalent in Deluxe. I'll eat my hat if Maple Treeway's not in one of the four. It's too unique and perdyful. Totally the most-needed.
Rankings are always approximate and in flux...looking back through last year's Mario comments below the Pokemon Snap entry, I'd kinda wanna maybe put the subway & Ribbon Road a tad higher, idk (just 'cause of the cute mall-like parts of the subway, and how Ribbon Rd reminds me of the I Spy books...) But eh, whatever...can't believe I forgot Deluxe Sherbet Land. The iceberg dudes are cute, though N64's course is more beauteous. All the 64 ones are still amazing, with many better than or on par with later versions and other tracks...

And always remember...last year's revelations. x_x *_*
-Whomps walk. Thwomps, uh, thwover. Both are sacred. (Knew that already, just hadn't consciously separated them or the names. Seeing 'em side by side was an epiphany.)
-You don't need to press forward on the joystick to go forward (*don't* do that in the air/water 'cause it sends you down.)
-The L button doesn't make you drift left, it only does items.

  2. Re: HotD~ Much as I love the Targs and that they obviously HAD to be the "spin-off" focus...season 8 is an unforgivably atrocious abomination. I know HBO *offered* more time and money, but as the ones ultimately in charge, they should have *insisted* or turned it over to someone else. Sapochnik's involved, and evidently he's as horrid as Dumb+Dumber in terms of talking total bullshit about Daenerys. Casting's unenticing. Everything said about it lessened my interest. Yeah, it'll probably be decent since the source material is complete, but hopefully George will put more effort into finishing the books than into this series or anything else. At this point, I'll read the Wikipedia synopses and watch if Mel ever turns up.

Just over a year and the first 30th-anniversary Casey notebook is aaaalmost full, but holy shite...the "where to write" guide is just...the amount of paper upon which to write, from every sort of pad I've got, even including the old journals from elementary school on up that're actually mostly empty...good thing is we can handwrite for multiple eternities. ^u^

Cauliflower-infused mac & cheese: Good thing it turned out Joe had the milk, 'cause the ShopRite order doesn't come 'til tomorrow and this stuff was all I wanted. 'Tis good. You can smell/taste the cauliflower, which of course has a strong odor, so this isn't a sneaky way to get those who dislike it to eat it...but it's really not too overpowering, still very much mostly mac & cheese. So if you don't mind, pretty good & a handy way to work in a veggie serving. Hm...the cauliflower flavor seems stronger when it's cooled off? Better warm I think.

  3. Learned today: Babs Bunny's "Veal Parmigiana" song from How I Spent My Summer Vacation is to the tune of "Santa Lucia." xD
Added to the vidja game playlist: Contradiction (Jenks!) Now what was the vet simulation one that Joe subsequently showed us the livestream of? And what was the hilarious series with the guy driving around to showcase diners and drinking the pig blood and having everything fall apart as he went?

  4. Today’s learnin’:
    1. The song is actually Old Dan Tucker. Mom must’ve changed it to Joe Tucker because of, well, Joe. :b
    2. The two best-known Dutch people (I believe) just happen to share a birthday (Sept. 5)...? That's. Just. Scary...*-* Oh wait no, he's the 4th. Still, damn close. Funny coinkydink. :o

  5. Wave III:
Rock: Maple Treeway, Boo Lake, Rock Rock Mountain, London Loop
Moon: Rainbow Road, Merry Mountain, Peach Gardens, Berlin Byways

MAPLE TREEWAY: The glorious glory I knew would be coming. 8'D
RAINBOW ROAD: WAOW. Starts by Neptune, the prettiest planet. Delightful polka-dotted spaceshroom, beautiful road, Planet Chain Chomp (reminding me of Mario Odyssey & other games), the rings...yeah, that's a good'un...
MERRY MOUNTAIN: Had to be cute. Cozy mountainside Christmas village, pretty candles. Reminds me of Koziar's, and the PNC Bank "Magic of Lights." Honestly, why must the cutest and most detailed lands be in games where the object is to race through them as quickly as possible? xD Let me just mosey around and enjoy exploring them with no pressure, yo.
PEACH GARDENS: A rather unique one that I certainly expected to see. Reminds me of Longwood. :3 Thought I recalled the original having a labyrinth (although this one might be enough of a maze as is? x-b)
BOO LAKE: Banshee Boardwalk equivalent I suppose? I mean, it's cool. Bein' in a lake at night an' all. Lacked the giant Cheep-Cheep, though! ;; And bats...could use some aquatic life to make you really feel underwater, like Dolphin Shoals and various undersea Oiram levels.
ROCK ROCK MOUNTAIN: Pretty straightforward...nice, but was annoying. x-p
BERLIN BYWAYS: One of the better cities, I think...
LONDON LOOP: The city ones are fairly cool and realistic, but kinda basic and tough to distinguish.

Top prediction/hope for Wave IV: Daisy Cruiser. Perhaps Dino Dino and/or Mushroom Bridge...
Lots have Thwomps, Chomps, Piranha plants, Goombas...I'm always happy to see my pals (even if they chomp/thwomp me or fail to get outta the way.)

  6. WAVE IV:

    *FRUIT CUP:
-Amsterdam Drift (Best of the "real world city" ones!)
-Riverside Park (lovely mobile piranha plants, glowing turquoise cave shrooms, river mangroves...)
-Yoshi's Island (holy bouncing Chain Chomps, that one's pretty neat)
    -DK Summit

    *BOOMERANG CUP:
-Mario Circuit (again same, but driving thru the forest is real noice)
    -Waluigi Stadium
-Bangkok Rush (cute market, street w/ business signs...)
    -Singapore Speedway (very scifi-lookin'...#lifesavergoomba)

*Birdo added and now comes in Blue, Light Blue, Orange, Red, Green, White, and Black as well as Pink. *MEGA-HEART EYES*

  7. WAVE V (one more!):

    FEATHER CUP:
Daisy Cruiser!! BOOYAH! Goombas floatin' in the pool, and the beautiful ocean door in the hall...
    Tour Athens Dash -Cool. (GOOM!)
Moonview Highway -Bright lights, big city...BOB-OMB CARS!
Squeaky Clean Sprint -Okay whaaaaat...why're we racing around a giant's bathroom?! O_o Why are there cassette tapes and a boombox in there? More floaty Goombas...don't like the drain part, Ollie the Drain Addict would...track composed of soap bars, towels, clips, etc...I do like the wee mechanical Cheep Cheeps.

    CHERRY CUP:
Koopa Cape -esp the underwater bit with the eel, plus ofc cheep-cheeps and goombaschnongs...:3
Sunset Wilds -this cup might actually be maybe a bit stronger overall? But I was waitin' for the cruiser x-3
    Tour Vancouver Velocity -lovely
Tour Los Angeles Laps -probably being quite generous to LA but...nice xD

ADDED CHARACTERS: WIGGLER! <33 PETEY PIRANHA! <33 And Kamek =]

  8. WAVE VI (last one!):

    Acorn Cup:
    -Piranha Plant Cove
    -GCN DK Mountain
    -Wii Daisy Circuit
    -Tour Rome Avanti

    Spiny Cup:
    -3DS Rosalina's Ice World
    -Wii Rainbow Road
-SNES Bowser's Castle 3 (cool--although N64 Bowser's Castle remains unmatched for sheer scariness. And this one you just go around the outside, like a Buffalo gal)
    -Tour Madrid Drive
